Ode to Life

Music and words by Komeil Zarin

Jan 2023

This song is dedicated to the memory of Mohammad Moradi, a young Iranian student who took his own life in Lyon's Rhone River, in protest of the suppression of Iran's 2022 uprising. May his silenced voice serve to amplify the voices of others.

There is a sun over the river in Lyon
There is a moon that is rising along
There is a voice penetrating the night
Crying, woman life freedom
Crying, woman life freedom
There is a tear dropping gently on the grass
There is a time for everything to pass
There is a life after life after life
For the woman, for the child, for the man
For the woman, for the child, for the man

Become the rage

Music and words by Komeil Zarin

October 2022

I sing this song for Woman, Life, Freedom

From the green of the green fields

To the pale of the white clouds

To the scarlet, of your blood

spilled, on this ground

Woman, Life, Freedom

How thankful we are, O tall cypress

Outraged daughter of hope

whose hair can't ever be chained

Become the rage

Become the rage

Become the rage

This version of Become the Rage was reinterpreted and produced by my good friend Carlos Enrique Rey with the support of other friends. I'm so grateful for people such as them who stand in solidarity and offer their voice. This means so much to me.

Together

Music and words by Komeil Zarin

October 2022

I made this song to stand in solidarity with my Iranian sisters and brothers during the protests of 2022. I sing the words that they have been chanting on the streets.

I shall kill

I shall kill

Whoever killed my sister

Whoever drenched the blade of Zahhak

in the blood of my people

Who, instead of flowers

sewed bullets onto your body

Whose Home of Hereafter

is burned by our people's rage

Your body and mine are one and the same

The eyes of our nights are one and awake

We will stay together

We will die together

We will take back Iran

We will take back Iran
